The time has now come to add in some non arpeggios notes. Scale notes, chromatic passing notes, appoggiaturas and a few little tricks to make our improvisation swing. The yellow notes make the arpeggios.

Here are the scale notes on Cmaj7. The scale continues downwards with extra notes below.

Because we are using arpeggios as our introduction to improvisation, we won’t spend time studying the scales which could be used with the chords of A7b9, Dm7 and G7.

For now, stay with the arpeggio notes of these three chords and add a few passing notes. Here are a few examples. The arpeggio notes are in yellow.
